On the Internet people only look at pictures of kittens. British street artist Banksy has posted pictures and video of works made during a trip to the war-torn Gaza Strip. One shows a figure reminiscent of Rodin’s “The Thinker” — though, set in a still-standing doorway surrounded by nothing but rubble, the figure seems more distraught than contemplative.

Horror stories about treacherous boat journeys from Africa to the Mediterranean far too often make headline news. The men, women and children fleeing their homes to start a new life in Europe become faceless numbers in the media, and are ‘othered’ by conservative politicians for their own agenda.

The Breath of China is a thematic photo exhibition of thousands of air-quality images taken by 44 photographers in 34 Chinese capital cities. The exhibition was displayed on the 14th Pingyao International Photography Festival (PIPF) in Shanxi Province, from September 19th to 27th, 2014.

For his latest project, Mark Manzi found himself outside of his comfort zone. We were ‘Superheroes’ and had fun, colourful, engaging activities which had a high visual impact with a purpose to engage the head, hand and heart. We believe that everyone has superpowers within and they just need to be released but that all superheroes need a rest in order be at their best for themselves and others.

The purpose of this project was the permeate stock images with more depictions of Black people. Stock images are usually easily found and utilized, showcasing people doing everyday activities or scenes. To boost representation of Black people in this particular image field, were left out, so the artist chose to recreate popular stock images with Black models to showcase representation and shed light on the lack of diversity in these photos.
