Disabled lesbian activism is a radical assertion of self in the face of societal stigma and marginalization. "Rainer’s early choreography celebrated, among other things, ordinary movements: the expressive capacities of kneeling, of shaking your head, of rolling on the floor. And when she went through periods of sickness, those movements became an even more important part of her repertoire. In her 1966 Hand Movie, an 8mm film she shot on her sickbed, we see a dance she choreographed for just her hand, while her body rests.

Artist and disability rights activist Liz Crow has produced another iteration of her long-standing performance project, “Bedding Out.” In an attempt to bridge the divide between her private and public lives, she invited the world to witness the way she exists in the privacy of her own bed. Staged at the Salisbury Arts Centre just outside of London, visitors could watch Crow as she lives in an installed bedroom for 48 hours straight.

The protest, which was organized by a group started by the celebrated photographer Nan Goldin, started just after 4 p.m., when several dozen people converged at the Temple of Dendur inside the wing.

AXS Map is building a social movement around inclusion for people with physical disabilities. AXS Map is a crowd-sourced platform for mapping wheelchair accessibility of buildings and places, and sharing that information across a network.
